by Daisy Whitney which was the last book I read that I couldn’t put down. It is a wonderful book and I think everyone should read it. I read it back in January so I can’t really give it a proper review sadly as too much is going on right now and my brain is muddled. The next book I read was searchhsearch searchasearche Straight Rsearcha Cutecheapchick e by Brunonia Barry. I actually really liked this book although I had the twist at the end of the book completely figured out. I think a lot of that has to do with my major and minor in college. I know a lot about people and can figure them out. It took me awhile to get through this book though because it’s been crunch time for planning the wedding and I moved in with Zack so there was adjusting going on. The last book I read was Halo by Alexandra Adornetto which I have to be honest I don’t really know how I even finished the book. I really struggled through it. The writing wasn’t so bad but the story was and well I take that back on the writing. I think she sort of fell in to the “Stephanie Meyer syndrome”* where it takes pages to get the point.  Not much even happened through this massive book until the end and the “villain” didn’t even show up until the book was almost finished. I am also getting really sick of these main female characters who let their lives go to hell  because a guy left them. I get that they are teenagers and that everything is polarized when you’re that age or over dramatized is more of the word I am looking for. BUT seriously grow a back bone. I want to read more about strong female characters who don’t define themselves by the person they are with. If you have any suggestions let me know! I think the main reason I picked this book up was because of the cover. It is absolutely gorgeous cover. Ok end rant.

I got all these books from the bookstore or were gifts given to me by Zack.

* – I had a professor in college who loved the Twilight books and so do I so I’m not going to lie. But she gave us essay exams and she always told us do not to fall in to the Stephanie Meyer syndrome when writing our essays. Which was to say keep it short and sweet and not do a dump all.

Quick Update

I’ve been sick for the past week…again. I had a temperature and now I have a terrible cough. I’ve been coughing so much that it gives me a headache and it wakes me up in the night. I stayed home from work Thursday in hopes that I could sleep it off. I spent the morning sleeping and watching Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer. It did not work but I didn’t want to call in again so I went to work Friday. Then I was stupid and dragged myself to theater to see → Leave a comment

A little bit on movies

I haven’t been reading very much but I have been watching movies (and a lot of TV sadly.. a lot…like all the dvr’d episodes of Glee, Vampire Diaries and Supernatural I had stocked up and then reruns of Buffy on TV…not to mention reruns of Family Guy, I Love Lucy and What Not to Wear). I’ve also been getting things straightened out in the house and I have to say I don’t want to move again for at least another year.

Any way so that I actually blog something I thought I would talk about some of the movies I have seen going back to January both in the theater and DVD. I have to say I saw some pretty bad movies to *cough* The Box and Takers *cough* but I saw some good ones in there to. I will not review the bad movies…I just don’t see a point.

True Grit - Zack and I saw this on New Year’s Day. We had originally planned to go to Flag Staff for that weekend but snow happened. So we saw this instead to make up for it. I am not a huge fan of westerns and I suppose this is not a traditional western any way. I have not seen the original so I had nothing to compare it to. I really liked this movie. I didn’t find myself bored once. Hailee Steinfeld and Jeff Bridges were both excellent. Afterward I told Zack that I hoped if we had daughter that she would channel some of her inner Matti Ross. This movie is definitely worth your time I promise.

Then we saw Tangled which was awesome if you like Disney movies and I do. I am a huge fan and I collect them and have been since they were put out in the clam shell VHS cases. Mandy Moore is the voice of Rapunzel and Zachary Levi is the voice of Flynn. It’s a very fun movie with laughs, music and great characters like a horse that acts like a dog.

The Town & The Social Network - I really liked The Town except I don’t think it’s one that I want to watch multiple times. As such I didn’t go out and buy it and only rented it. I did however love The Social Network and after I rented it I immediately put it on my wish list which Zack was kind enough to get it for me when it went on sale. It resonated in my mind for days and I wanted to talk about it with everyone.

The Green Hornet – I saw this with Zack and his friend Scott. I don’t really have much to say about it. It was better then my expectations for it. It was fun but definitely not meant for kids honestly. There is a lot of adult humor. I would say this was fun to see but it wouldn’t be one I’d want to buy. I think I’d like to rent it though on blu-ray just to see some of the scenes in hi def.

You Again, Secretariat, and Morning Glory – Call me silly but I loved You Again. How can you go wrong with Kristen Bell?!?! You can’t. I watched this at my brother’s house when I was visiting for the weekend and I sort of wish I had blind bought it when I thought about it. Secretariat was also wonderful. The first time I watched it I had trouble getting in to but I had just moved in to the house and so my mind was on putting things away and getting things in order. I ended up watching it with my mom again on a Sunday before Sunday dinner. I cried several times and then made my co worker borrow it because I thought she would like it. I did blind buy Morning Glory on Tuesday but I had wanted to see it in the theater. Zack and I both really enjoyed this movie.

The last movie I’ll talk about is Red Riding Hood. I got free advanced screening tickets to see this movie.(I had some for Battle La to but I let Zack take his friend Scott to see it since I didn’t really care to see it). I didn’t really have expectations for this movie other then I thought it looked really pretty. And it was very pretty visually. The story line was kind of meh but I still enjoyed it because I thought they did a really good job on keeping who the wolf was a secret. I think Zack wasn’t to thrilled with it but since he didn’t pay for it he can’t complain. I probably will buy this when it comes out..or hopefully I’ll buy it since in the coming months things will be changing for me. I’ll discuss that on a later date when everything comes together though.

So that’s it for now. In the rest March, the movies I would like to see in the theater are Limitless, Source Code, The Lincoln Lawyer, Sucker Punch (this one in particular!!), and Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2. On DVD I’m hoping to see Hereafter, The Fighter, The Switch, The Tourist, How Do You Know, and Black Swan. Plus a few that are already out like Bulesque and Love and Other Drugs(which honestly I own but am saving it for the right time to watch. I can’t help it’s how I am.)
